The Western beaches of Southern Italy are blessed with some of the most clear turquoise waters. The warm Mediterranean Sea laps at a 1,000-kilometer coastline that brings treasures from the ocean such as small shells and small glassy pebbles. As you walk along the sand, every glance brings a new discovery, and Manuel F. wants you to explore this memory with her. 

This resin masterpiece attempts to capture the depth and vibe of the Calabrian ocean within its many layers. The process of creating this work takes weeks to build and months to cure. A deep blue sea has reflective particles that sparkle in the light. Layers of milky white waves made with acrylic and alcohol ink glide over the water’s edge that leads onto real sand. And on the dry portion of the shore are several tiny shells and rock textures. Flecks of gold foil add to the shimmer effect. All of this is embedded in a high-gloss epoxy resin that is designed to stand up to daily wear.

The owner of this set will appreciate the unique craftsmanship and innovations of Manuela’s techniques. Although Manuela grew up in an artistic family, her method is her own creation and perfected after many years. When we spoke to her about this mod on a typical IKEA dresser unit, she was excited to further her study of producing fine art on an everyday item. She wanted to embrace making this one-of-kind piece on such an unusual canvas.

How to aquire

Sold as a set. Furniture units sold separately.

While each piece can be purchased individually, this is designed to be a diptych seen side by side. The sea flows continuously from left to right across two drawers. Should you not have a compatible IKEA nightstand, please contact us for further details.

We encourage you to mount the pieces as intended: on the front of the small-sized IKEA nightstand or dresser drawers. (Please see installation instructions below.) Removing your existing drawer fronts to install this mod is quick and easy, and tools are provided. Then, installation of the artwork is also simple.
